“Zhejiang Economics TV” Reports the Research Results of “Study on the Technology System of Eco-friendly Decentralized On-site Sewage Treatment and Utilization” by Principal Min Zhao

Recently “Zhejiang Economics TV” presented a special report on the “Study on the Technology System of Eco-friendly Decentralized On-site Sewage Treatment and Utilization” by Principal Min Zhao.

Urban sewage is mainly treated collectively at the sewage treatment plant after being discharged into the pipe network. The problem with this type of treatment is that the pipes may be far away and it is usually difficult to be reused. However many places including countryside, islands, and military barracks (which are often mobile) are scattered, and these places usually require decentralized sewage treatment system.

For decentralized sewage treatment technology, collecting sewage from the source is extremely difficult. Therefore the research team led by Min Zhao has conducted consistent research to tackle this problem. By conducting source-separated collection and mixed collection, and by investigating the discharge pattern and water quality of different types of decentralized sewage water in different regions, they developed key technologies and special equipment with independent intellectual property rights, achieved highly-efficient and high-quality treatment of decentralized sewage plants, and effectively protected our “source of life”. Their research won first prize of 2020 Technology Progress Award of Zhejiang Province. 

Through making constant technical improvements, this research team has made significant achievements by establishing the “diversified collection and eco-friendly decentralized sewage treatment and utilization technology”. Through applying following four key technologies: the decentralized sewage source separation and landscape-based combined ecological treatment and utilization technology, decentralized sewage source separation model and land-saving 3D ecological treatment and utilization technology, decentralized sewage mixed collection model and reinforced pre-treatment combined ecological processing technology, as well as strengthened ecological treatment technology within the decentralized sewage mixed collection system, high-concentration dark water will undergo ecological and biological treatment whereas low-concentration grey water will undergo low-cost simple treatment so that the discharged water will reach the effluent water quality and can be used to flush toilet and water the gardens to achieve reuse of recycled water.

Currently this research achievement has been widely applied in nearly 560 domestic sewage treatment projects across China, including the sewage treatment project of Wenchang National Space Launch Site and West Lake Xiaoyingzhou toilet sewage  treatment project in Hangzhou. This research has removed harmful substances and recovered useful resources in the sewage, created landscaping of treatment facilities, significantly improved the technology and management standard of decentralized sewage treatment industry, and made important contributions to the construction of sponge cities, beautiful villages, and achieved the sustainable development of aviation industry in China.
