College of Teacher Education
Since the predecessor of Wenzhou University is Wenzhou Normal College, the College of Teacher Education adheres to the 89-year tradition of teacher education with distinctive characteristics and a higher level of training among similar institutions. The College is a key teacher training base in Zhejiang Province, offering the postgraduate programs in education and applied psychology. It also collaborates with Chonnam National University to jointly train doctoral students in education. The College offers four undergraduate programs, including applied psychology, educational technology, primary education and pre-school education, all of which have been rated as national first-class undergraduate programs. The College currently has 179 faculty members, including 125 full-time teachers. Among them, there are 21 professors and 57 with doctoral degrees. Those with senior titles accounts for 58%. It also pools several high-end talents, including young candidates for the National Talents Program, excellent teachers included in Zhejiang Talents Program, candidates for Zhejiang Province 151 Talents Program, young and middle-aged academic leaders, Zhijiang young scholars, five-star young teachers and superfine teachers.
1. Pre-school education
The program of pre-school education was established in 1984, making Wenzhou University one of the two earliest institutions offering the training of preschool education in Zhejiang Province. Known as the “cradle of pre-school teachers in southern Zhejiang Province”, the College is the center for pre-school education training, early childhood education industry innovation, pre-school teaching and research, and pre-school international education in southern Zhejiang Province.
2. Primary education
The program of primary education in WZU was one of the first batch of programs in the country to pass the second-level certification of the normal teaching program by the Ministry of Education in 2019. As a national first-class undergraduate program, it aims to train students who can later work as primary school teachers with comprehensive abilities. Our strong faculty and advanced experimental training facilities altogether build a sustainable teaching ecology. The independent and innovative teaching concepts lead us to the forefront of basic education.
3. Educational technology
The program of educational technology, founded in 1999, aims to cultivate information technology teachers in primary and secondary schools. In 2019, it was approved as a first-class undergraduate program in Zhejiang Province. In 2021, it was rated as the program featuring the highest employment rate in WZU. In 2022, it was rated as the national first-class undergraduate program.
4. Applied psychology
The program of applied psychology is a national first-class undergraduate program, a first-class program in Zhejiang Province, and the most competitive program in WZU. With 20 years of experience, it offers academic-pathway postgraduate programs in education (mental health education and educational psychology), and professional-pathway postgraduate programs in applied psychology.
